Somewhere along the line my toddler stopped eating anything I’d put in front of her. Sure she can put down a plate of spaghetti or Mexican food like she’s been starved for days but when it comes to fruits and veggies, it’s another story. To ensure she’s getting the proper nutrition I started making her smoothies using Amara Organic Baby Food pouches. Amara pouches are packed with vitamins and nutrients making them the perfect base for a delicious smoothie. Don’t let the term “food pouches for babies” scare you! These hidden veggie smoothies are yummy!
When I’m making smoothies I never go by a set recipe. I just start throwing things in. Especially whatever fresh fruit and veggies I have on hand. One of my toddler’s favorite smoothies includes Amara’s Apple-Maqui Berry pouch. The pouches contain fruit and veggies that are preserved using a unique drying method. The first thing I do is prepare the pouch per the instructions. I add 5 tablespoons of water to make it the perfect consistency for smoothies. Then I add all of my smoothie ingredients to the blender…
1 Amara Apple-Maqui Berry Pouch (mixed with 5 tablespoons water)
Handful of fresh blueberries
Vanilla yogurt (6 oz container)
1 small banana
Handful of spinach
I just add enough milk and ice to get the smoothie to the right consistency. It’s been really hot so we like a little extra ice! This recipe makes enough for both me and my daughter to enjoy. I’m not even ashamed to admit that I like baby food smoothies! I like to put Parker’s smoothie in her Squeasy Gear Squeasy Snacker. The Squeasy Snacker is perfect for on-the-go smoothies. Plus it has a no spill insert. The last thing I want is smoothie all over my backseat!
Gotta love tricking them with hidden veggies! How do you get your toddler to eat their fruits and veggies?
I’m so glad I found Amara Organic Baby Food before the arrival of our next baby. The pouches are super portable. They can be thrown in the diaper bag and mixed anywhere with either breastmilk, formula or water.
Amara pouches can be purchased at Whole Foods, on Amazon or directly from their site.
